Balmain battlers prepare for a fight (Inner West Courier)

Will he or won’t he? And does it even matter? The battle between sitting MP Verity Firth and Leichhardt Mayor Jamie Parker for the state seat of Balmain is one of the most hotly anticipated tussles of the coming state election, but Cr Parker is yet to declare whether he’ll run.

Cr Parker told the Courier he expected to make up his mind by mid-year in time for the Greens’ preselection process. 'I’m considering it,' he said. 'A lot of people are encouraging me to run, but at the moment I’m focusing on reforming the council and improving what we do.'
