Budget fails public housing – NSW worst in Australia

Greens MP Jamie Parker described the O'Farrell government's budget an "utter failure" for public housing in NSW.

"This budget fails abysmally on the issue of public housing. There is no new money for the social housing sector, which is the biggest challenge for housing in NSW."

"There are over 60,000 people waiting for public housing in NSW – that's the longest waiting list of all states in Australia and an absolute disgrace. It's a great shame on the government that it has neglected to address this important issue in the budget."

"The government's failure to fund new housing will have serious effects for many people in my electorate who in some cases have been waiting years for appropriate housing. This is the single biggest area of unmet need in community services and if the government continues to neglect it, the waiting list will only get longer."

"The Greens welcome the government's increase in disability funding, but the needs of other vulnerable people in NSW must be urgently addressed."
