Council wins government support for fast track of new Callan Park sporting fields

The Minister for Planning Brad Hazzard last week agreed to fast track Leichhardt Council’s request for temporary care and management of the Glover Street sporting field at Callan Park.

Greens MP Jamie Parker and Mayor of Leichhardt Councillor Rochelle Porteous said the decision was a great win for the community.

“We will rebuild and upgrade the sporting field as quickly as possible to ensure our local sporting clubs have the great facilities they deserve," said Councillor Porteous.

Mr Parker said the win is another example of Council's long standing commitment to delivering the best possible sporting facilities for the community.

“Residents have voiced strong support for more sporting fields and our recent agreement with the Minister to hand over the temporary lease will allow us to deliver this as quickly as possible.”

Councillor Porteous and Mr Parker also formally presented the Minister for Planning with the adopted Callan Park Master Plan.

“We will continue to work with the Minister for Planning to progress the adoption of the Callan Park Master Plan by the Parliament of NSW, as well as the establishment of the Callan Park and Broughton Hall Trust,” said Councillor Porteous.

Council will consult with the community and local sporting bodies once a planning proposal for the sporting field is developed.
