A Metre Matters Legislation
We are determined to make a difference for cyclists in NSW with the push for legislation which requires motorists to allow a metre in distance when overtaking.
NSW is the most dangerous state to be a cyclist, with an average of 11 deaths per year for the past decade, constituting 30% of the country’s total fatalities.

Read about our success in defending the Glebe Youth Service from eviction – this month we threw a party to welcome them
home. We continue our campaign to introduce student concessions on light rail, protect NSW from Coal Seam Gas mining, support TAFE and protect it from more cuts, and save Sydney's nightlife. I’m often out in the electorate visiting constituents, talking to local business owners and enjoying our high streets - if you see me out and about please stop and say hi!
As always, I’m keen to hear your feedback so please reply to this email and let me know what you think.
Human Rights
I am committed to the protection of human rights for all my constituents regardless of gender or sexual orientation. This includes strong support for same-sex marriage and opposition to all forms of discrimination.
One Vote, One Value
Votes are for people, not corporations
The NSW government is working with the Shooters Party to strip your voting rights in Local Council elections. They have passed legislation in the lower house that delivers two votes to every corporation that runs a business, owns a property or leases a premises in all major centres across NSW.
These laws fundamentally undermine your rights as a citizen by effectively halving your vote, and are another example of the Coalition selling democracy to the highest bidder.
Greens win inquiry into public housing
Are you living in public housing? Please have your say before 28 February!
Jamie Parker's letter to public housing residents
You may already be aware that two inquiries into housing have recently commenced:
Nominate a senior for a 2014 Local Achievement Award
“We need to recognise the contribution of those who make our community a better place to live. These awards are one way to do that,” Mr Parker said.
“Seniors make an invaluable contribution to our local community but too often we overlook the very real difference they make.
“I’m encouraging community members to nominate local seniors with energy, determination and dedication to their community and loved ones,” Mr Parker said.
Nominations for the 2014 NSW Seniors Week Local Achievement Awards for the Balmain electorate close at 5pm on Friday 21 February.

Save Sydney's nightlife
The NSW government recently announced sweeping changes which will impact significantly on the vibrancy and diversity of our nightlife, while failing to properly address the very real problem of alcohol-fuelled violence.
Both Labor and the Liberal Coalition want to dramatically change Sydney’s nightlife by introducing a range of reforms which will:
- Threaten live music and performance;
- Negatively impact on small businesses and their workers;
- Unfairly target young people, especially those who can’t afford to drink in expensive small bars.
Instead, the Greens are proposing a package of measures that promote evidence-based, socially equitable solutions. This includes 24-hour transport, regulating alcohol advertising and promotions, better enforcement of RSA and risk-based licensing. You can read the detail here.
Join our campaign to save Sydney Nightlife and support genuine action on alcohol-fuelled violence.
