Green light for regional skate park

Greens Member for Balmain, Jamie Parker MP, today welcomed news that the NSW Department of Health has issued landowner’s consent for the construction of a long-anticipated regional skate park in Lilyfield.

The skate park was first identified in the draft Callan Park Masterplan back in 2008. Progress for a development application depended on the State Government providing consent as the landowner. Recently, responsibility for administration of the Callan Park (Special Provisions) Act 2002 was transferred from Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority.

“Following the transfer of Callan Park to the Minister for the Environment, I met with the Minister’s office to ensure the landowner’s consent was progressed for the skate park. I am delighted the Department of Health has then acted so quickly,” said Mr Parker.

“I look forward to working with Council and all stakeholders to ensure the best possible outcome for the community.

“I congratulate the local skating community who sought my assistance and have been such effective advocates. I also want to thank all the staff at Leichhardt Council who have worked diligently to progress this project,” said Mr Parker.
