NB_FB_image_ICAC.jpgAs you know, I have been leading the charge on political donations reform and fighting corruption.

In a highly anticipated decision, the High Court of Australia has found that NSW laws which ban specific classes of political donors are constitutionally valid.

NSW laws currently ban alcohol, tobacco, gambling and developer interests from making political donations. The Court also upheld our laws which apply caps on the amount of political donations.

It was a fantastic result which gives us the opportunity to continue to clean up our political system. Elections should be about the contest of ideas, not the contest of cash. Whether it is cash in a brown paper bag or buying a table at a fundraising event the community needs to be sure that politicians are not being bought… Read more from the article in the SMH.

My team and I are available to help with concerns you may have about public housing, public transport, health, planning and development, education, childcare or any other local or state issue. Call us on 9660 7586 or email [email protected]

Best wishes and thank you for your support.

SAVE THE POWERHOUSE MUSEUM - SIGN THE PETITION TODAY

There are not many issues around Sydney that generate this much public support. Reaching 10,000 signatures on the Save the Powerhouse Petition demonstrates the depth and breadth of opposition to the Liberal government’s privatisation agenda. Moving the museum is more about a cash grab than culture. The winners will be big developers. The people of Parramatta will be short-changed with an inferior museum rather than a new iconic arts centre that represents the significance of Western Sydney.

If you haven’t yet signed the paper petition (to be tabled in Parliament) please download today and encourage nine of your friends to do it too. Send it back quickly to Jamie Parker MP Reply Paid 84125 Glebe 2037 (no stamp required).

STUDENT TRAVEL ON LIGHT RAIL

Since the light rail network was extended to the Inner West, we have been calling for the School Student Transport Scheme to include free travel on light rail to and from school. It simply makes sense, and helps students and their families.

Recently in Parliament, I asked a direct question to the Transport Minister, Andrew Constance, and was delighted to hear for the first time a commitment to roll out the scheme to light rail. It is very encouraging that the government has now committed to the roll out and is working on the best way to do so. I recently met with the Department and the Minister's office to commit to a timetable.

Please help me keep the pressure on the government – forward this link to someone local you know and ask them to sign their name to the petition.

FRIDGE BUYBACK IS BACK!

The award winning residential energy savings program that collects and recycles second fridges and upright freezers, is back! New rules make it easier than ever before for residents to save on their power bills by giving up their second fridge or upright freezer. Now in its seventh year, Fridge Buyback has collected, degassed and recycled over 53,000 fridges in 51 local government areas. The appliances are professionally degassed and the metals recycled. A $15 rebate is paid for collection from homes with six steps or less. Collection is free, using professional removalists (but no rebate is paid), where collection involves between seven to 20 steps). A fee will apply only if the property has more than 20 steps. Fridge Buyback has regular collection runs every few weeks. Ring 1800 708 401 to book or see www.fridgebuyback.com.au for more information.

WESTCONNEX M4 EAST EIS - SUBMISSION GUIDE

Submissions close on 2 November. We will send a separate email with our submission guide. This polluting, community destroying, multi-billion dollar proposal will only bring more cars on the road instead of investing in a world class public transport system.
