Let the community decide

Join our Campaign to bring back our local councils!

Dear NSW Parliament,

We call on every NSW MP to commit to legislation that allows residents to vote in a binding de-merger plebiscite in any council that has been forced to merge by the Baird Government.

If a majority of residents support their council standing alone, then the law must provide for a council to be reinstated and a de-merger to occur at the soon as possible.

We make this demand because we believe that the community -- residents and local businesses-- not Mike Baird,  should decide the future of their local councils.

    Like the vast majority of local residents I was very happy with my local council (LMC). It’s a strange kind of democracy where local residents don’t get a say.

    I wonder how Baird and co would respond if the Federal Government decided to amalgamate a few of the states like New South Wales and South Australia and sack the lot of them?

    If we are over governed then why not just get rid of one whole layer which logically would be the State Governments?

    I utterly endorse Jamie Parker’s comments re the demand for a plebiscite. it is the only democratic thing to do.

    I am outraged at this high-handed sacking of our council

    and disgusted that such actions can be taken against the will and without proper consultation with the residents
