Let the community decide

Join our Campaign to bring back our local councils!

Dear NSW Parliament,

We call on every NSW MP to commit to legislation that allows residents to vote in a binding de-merger plebiscite in any council that has been forced to merge by the Baird Government.

If a majority of residents support their council standing alone, then the law must provide for a council to be reinstated and a de-merger to occur at the soon as possible.

We make this demand because we believe that the community -- residents and local businesses-- not Mike Baird,  should decide the future of their local councils.

    I cant believe that Mike Baird thinks that sacking the councils & forcing amalgamation is fair or reasonable. People are rightly angry that our elected representatives have been sweept aside. I might accept amalgamation if there was a powerful argument for the benefits & if it was decided in a democratic manner…we get to vote.

    Citizen confidence in Australia’s political life and its democracy is at an all-time low. NSW’s enforced council mergers have been the last straw for many of us. This call for a de-merger plebiscite is the NSW Parliament’s opportunity to restore some credibility.

    If council amalgamation is such a good idea for communities why was the appointment of administrators done so hastily without further community consultation until the next council elections in 18months time.

    NO forced amalgamations !!! We live in a democracy, NOT a dictatorship ! The Baird Government IS a dictatorship .

    Local communities have now lost their local voice because of Baird.
