Let the community decide

Join our Campaign to bring back our local councils!

Dear NSW Parliament,

We call on every NSW MP to commit to legislation that allows residents to vote in a binding de-merger plebiscite in any council that has been forced to merge by the Baird Government.

If a majority of residents support their council standing alone, then the law must provide for a council to be reinstated and a de-merger to occur at the soon as possible.

We make this demand because we believe that the community -- residents and local businesses-- not Mike Baird,  should decide the future of their local councils.

Very disappointed at the Government running roughshod over democratically elected councils.

Mike (The Toy-Boy of Big Business) Baird is destroying Sydney and he knows it. He will exit politics in a few years and make tens, perhaps hundreds, of millions of dollars when Big Business pays him for his dictatorial services to the Fat Cats. Lend Lease is a proven corrupt company yet it has nearly half of the contracts for Westconnex. Mike Baird is happy to work with corrupt companies and corrupt politicians…it is in his blood!

Whilst I am a supporter of rationalization and streamlining of our 3 tiered government system, I believe it is both undemocratic and unreasonable to make such radical changes to our level of representation without a plebiscite and public support. If the Baird Government continues to ignore its constituents, it puts its tenure in great peril!

There may be advantages to amalgamating local councils, especially if they are small. But it should have been put to a local vote. That’d be democratic. What we got was something rather different. Worse, we have no elected council for the next 16 months! Really. Conveniently removes local council opposition to state government projects, such as westconnex.
