Member for Balmain pays tribute to local champion Bob Heffernan

Greens MP Jamie Parker has expressed sadness at the passing of former Leichhardt Alderman and Councillor Bob Heffernan.

"Bob was a true local champion, spending 27 years serving our community as an Alderman/Councillor on Leichhardt Council, including as Deputy Mayor in 1989-90," Mr Parker said.

"Bob was born and raised on the Balmain peninsula and fought to keep our neighbourhoods free from overdevelopment; an impressive legacy which lives on today.

"Whilst Mayor I was honoured to work with local community members to install a plaque at the Hannaford Centre in Rozelle, in recognition of Bob's tireless work for the community.

"I was privileged to have known Bob and I extend my condolences to his family," Mr Parker said.

Mr Heffernan’s memorial service will be held at 1pm on Friday 18 January at St Augustine’s Catholic Church in Balmain.

Bob Heffernan was first elected to Council in December 1968. His final terms of Council were from April 1984 – September 1999.
