Residents and Greens MP Jamie Parker outraged Ausgrid “butchering” trees in Leichhardt

RESIDENTS of “the most beautiful street in Leichhardt” are outraged crepe myrtle trees which line the street have been “butchered” by electricity company Ausgrid’s contractors.

The Carlisle St residents said contractors are chopping up to 6m off the top of trees to keep them clear of overhead powerlines.

Home owners must pay rent to stay

Residents whose homes have been compulsorily acquired for the WestConnex road project are paying thousands of dollars in rent to the acquiring authority, Roads and Maritime Services, for the privilege of staying while pondering or being forced to appeal to the courts.

Plein Air painting prize announced

The NSW Parliament is calling for entries to the 2016 Plein Air Painting Prize.

The prize is the one of the only contests that celebrates this unique and age-old art form, which requires the artist to paint entirely out of doors, in direct contact with nature and the elements. Artists cross fields, climb mountains, follow rivers, trek coastlines, or even simply wander out into the backyard or neighbourhood in search of the perfect subject.

INQUIRY MARKS MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH IN POWERHOUSE CAMPAIGN

Today the Legislative Council of the NSW Parliament voted to establish an inquiry into the State’s museums and galleries. Critically, the committee will specifically inquire into the controversial move to relocate the Powerhouse Museum.
