No WestConnex mid-point tunnel site in Leichhardt

Sign our letter telling the Minister for WestConnex we don't want a damaging and dangerous tunnel site in Leichhardt.

For more details about the proposed mid point tunnel site, please go to http://www.jamieparker.org/tunnel.

Dear Minister

As a member of the local community I believe that the previously proposed Darley Road site is patently unacceptable as a mid point tunnel location for WestConnex.

This mid point tunnel excavation site will remain for up to four years, with significant traffic and safety impacts both on residents and people across the inner west region.

Residents of Leichhardt do not want a drill site. We are highly concerned about the traffic and safety impacts both on local residents and people across the Inner West region. We therefore call on you to cancel any plans to drill at the Darley Road site in Leichhardt.

This is yet another example of the kind of planning on the run which has been characteristic of the flawed WestConnex project since the start, and one more reason why it should be abandoned.

Yours sincerely,

Bearing in mind there is no EIS for the tunnel and the Chief Scientist has based her findings on outdated data – what has to be remembered is that the CEO Dennis Cliche is liable under The Corporation’s Act OH&s and WHA there is abundant evidence to support that hundreds of people have been exposed to asbestos and ongoing toxic dust from site areas – but so far no-one has taken this on.

Shame we don’t get a say before it all comes to this point.

It’s the same old story after the horse has bolted

What a waste of money, those trackless trams would have been a smarter move, it would appear that some politicians are getting a kick back from developers

Planned Infrastructure is a part of city life, to gaining the best outcomes we should be looking at other large cities with successful road and transport achievements. West Connex fails to meet these criteria. The reckless use of vast amounts of public money for poor and unsustainable outcomes is a sad indictment of successive NSW state governments.

This road infrastructure is going to make traffic in the inner west worse, not better. Surely for this amount of money the trains could be improved with more frequent services etc which would encourage non-car transport options

Westconnex is a blight on our suburb and is delivered with no regard to the impact it places the community. There should be no tunneling site on Darby Road which can barely cope with the existing traffic. The government is deceptive and disrespectful to slowly unveil these increasing impacts on society. It is not that much harder to take the time to design things well and consider the welfare of others.

I support strong opposition to this proposal for the site adjacent to Leichhardt high school which will:

    • Cause dust and constant noise pollution around the school, on the oval and in the school buildings and the quadrangle

    • Create safety issues with the masses of daily truck movements. Already the hundreds of children arriving and leaving the school are vulnerable on those narrow footpaths besides busy roads to accidents with cars – they don’t need the extra hazards of trucks.

    • Rob our students of proper use of their ONLY oval which will border the excavation site

    • Rob the local community of use of this same oval
