No WestConnex mid-point tunnel site in Leichhardt

Sign our letter telling the Minister for WestConnex we don't want a damaging and dangerous tunnel site in Leichhardt.

For more details about the proposed mid point tunnel site, please go to http://www.jamieparker.org/tunnel.

Dear Minister

As a member of the local community I believe that the previously proposed Darley Road site is patently unacceptable as a mid point tunnel location for WestConnex.

This mid point tunnel excavation site will remain for up to four years, with significant traffic and safety impacts both on residents and people across the inner west region.

Residents of Leichhardt do not want a drill site. We are highly concerned about the traffic and safety impacts both on local residents and people across the Inner West region. We therefore call on you to cancel any plans to drill at the Darley Road site in Leichhardt.

This is yet another example of the kind of planning on the run which has been characteristic of the flawed WestConnex project since the start, and one more reason why it should be abandoned.

Yours sincerely,

Communities across the Inner West are being destroyed by Westconnex, let’s make sure Leichhardt, Lilyfield and Rozelle are protected from this destruction and let’s put a stop to this massive waste of public funds.

To place so much noise, vibrations and dust next to a school is the height of bad planning. We need to give our children a calm and safe environment in which to study and learn.

Once again this project looks like planning on the run and lack of transparency continues to amaze and appall.

Both sites targeted are extremely unsuitable for multiple heavy truck movements daily. The traffic congestion and air quality in these areas are already heavily compromised and over populated.
I suggest an access point on the unused vacant land between city west link and Lilyfield road.
Entering and exiting at the traffic lights used to access the super marina and tunnel to Anzac bridge.
The entrance to the new tunnel could be on the vacant land near Balmain road or anywhere between the ingress/egress point mentioned previously.

This road is simply transurban corporate greed. It is all about increasing road capacity and through that toll revenue. It was never about congestion. Also the anti-competition clauses, prohibiting alternative modes of transport, are a kick in the guts of Sydney’s commuters.

Outrageous to consider this next to a school!

I have 2 boys at Leichhardt School – one in Year 8 and another in Year 10. I understand that the school has been trying to get access to just that area with a view to expansion for years. The Oval where all sport is played and where all lunch breaks take place is directly adjacent to the proposed site. So not OK for our kids to be exercising alongside the constant rumble of heavy machinery and dust thrown up from any sort of excavation site over a 4 year period.

WestConnex is a disaster for the whole inner west. The Govt should slow down the construction and think through the whole project more carefully as the outcomes for traffic congestion in the inner west may be worse than they are now.
