Dear Premier,

I am writing to strongly protest against the sale of the Powerhouse building in Ultimo to property developers. This building is an integral part of Sydney’s unique landscape and should be kept for the public to enjoy.

The Powerhouse Museum is an important part of the city’s cultural life, and to see the building converted into apartments and taken away from the community is a disaster for all Australians.

Nationally significant buildings should be kept in public hands to ensure their preservation and long-term public use, rather than sold off to the highest bidder.

    The Power House is centrally located so that people coming to Sydney and from all parts of NSW can easily access it. This facility should be an integral part of the newly renovated Darling Harbour complex. I’m sorry but this proposal is just a land grab not a cultural improvement for the people if western Sydney

    I work near the Powerhouse Museum, and think it’s ridiculous to sell it off for blocks of flats. There are flats all around the area already. It’s just pure greed that drives these decisions. Visitors to Sydney are unlikely to travel to Parramatta to see a museum. I wouldn’t!

    Sydney has gotten rid of too many lovely old buildings and cultural spaces. It can’t get rid of another one for cheap horrible flats! Sydney is in danger of becoming a cultural joke.

    I go to the museum annually and really excited about the latest opening up of space around the facility, but why close that location now when the access has just improved?

    Oh for goodness sake, aren’t there enough new apartments being build right next door in the new Darling Harbour precinct – a whole new “residential urban village called Darling Square”!! Please keep one of the few remaining pieces of Ultimo/Pyrmont heritage for the benefit and enjoyment of all. I love the Powerhouse and go regularly with our daughter. We love the engineering and science exhibits (and periodic ABBA exhibit – great fun!), but we have noticed in recent times that the Powerhouse has been made to operate on the smell of an oily rag, since some the of the technology exhibits are a little worse for wear now. Here’s a radical idea… how about revitalising this wonderful landmark building and promoting it!! Rather than (what appears to by NSW Govt agenda) deliberating letting it fall into decline, and then sell it (oh how convenient, oh how sad).

    Most people will not go to Paramatta to see things which the Power House has excelled in . Where it is is so accessible- particularly interstate and overseas visitors. I go regularly while in Sydney, but will probably never go to Parramatta

    The Powerhouse is accessible to tourists and schools from all over Sydney and beyond and should not be sold. It should also not be moved to Parramatta. No tourists go to Para. They stay in SYDNEY!
