THE NSW Government gave Leichhardt Council a money-sucking lemon when it handed over Callan Park , according to Liberal MP Rob Stokes.
Mr Stokes attended last Saturday's Friends of Callan Park rally on behalf of Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell, telling the crowd the government's decision reminded him of when his father gave him a notoriously bad Leyland P76 car.
``It was one of those presents which turns out not to be a present at all,'' Mr Stokes told the Courier.
He said if elected, the Coalition would work with the council to devise an ongoing funding plan.
Leichhardt Mayor Jamie Parker said the government would need to give the council at least $1.8 million a year if it was to take on the site.
