Rozelle Village: new developer must talk to locals

I have called on the new owners of the Rozelle Village site to open up community consultation about their plans.

The community welcomes the change of ownership for the Rozelle Village site and hopes this will provide the opportunity for a fresh start.

Having bought the site more than three months ago, the new owners of Rozelle Village must now show their goodwill by opening up a consultation process to engage the community. So far, nothing has been heard from the new owners.

Local residents deserve to see the future of the site decided following 11 years of uncertainty brought about by the ludicrous plans for overdevelopment of the site by its previous owners, which included apartment blocks of up to 32 storeys high.

The community must be given the opportunity to contribute to plans for the site – not just have another totally unsuitable overdevelopment imposed on them by a profit-hungry developer.

I also call on the developer to take immediate action to clean up the site and ensure it is properly maintained and kept in good condition to the benefit of local residents and visitors to the area.

No-one wants to see another lengthy and protracted application process, and the only way to prevent this is to include the local community and engage in genuine consultation before proposing any development.

Please talk to the locals and particularly Jamie Parker before you talk to your architects.
