Solar Bonus Scheme - Public Meeting on 9 June 2011

Greens MP for Balmain Jamie Parker is holding a public meeting at Leichhardt Town Hall at 6:30pm on 9 June 2011 about the Liberal state government's threat to the Solar Bonus tariff for householders who install rooftop solar systems.

The Coalition Government has backflipped on its decision to slash the scheme, but the future of the industry is still in doubt.

*UPDATE*
Greens MP for Balmain Jamie Parker has welcomed NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell’s back down on retrospective changes to the Solar Bonus Scheme but warned that the future of the solar industry remains in grave doubt.

The public meeting he has organised for this Thursday evening at Leichhardt Town Hall from 6:30 pm will proceed to keep the pressure on the O’Farrell government to promote the shift to renewable energy.

The Government has once put the future of the rooftop solar and other industries in jeopardy. How will anyone ever trust a guarantee from the state government again. The move to slash the feed-in tariff was unjust. It would have broken a legislated promise given to many households who tried to do the right thing by the environment. The Liberals supported the scheme when it was introduced and they should have continued to do so.

The meeting will be addressed by people from the solar industry, Jamie Parker, Member for Balmain and Greens MP and Energy spokesperson John Kaye.
