Callan Park Master Plan petition

Dear Premier,

The NSW government was presented with the Callan Park Master Plan over three years ago. It was developed by Leichhardt Council with the community, and was designed to protect, preserve and promote the historic Callan Park site.

I am calling on the government to implement the award winning Callan Park Master Plan which would see this wonderful parkland be preserved as a place for recreation, relaxation and mental health recovery. The lack of any decision by the government is very concerning for our community.

It is with only with a Trust within the properly funded Master Plan that the future of Callan park will be secure. I encourage you to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

    We need Callan Park to be a solace for people with mental illness and a place of quiet recreation for the rest of us who live in a crowded, noisy part of the world.

    The inner city needs as much open space as is possible particularly close to Balmain/Rozelle which has very limited green areas… Callan Park is an ideal opportunity to add such breathing space; that aside from its heritage value.

    Callan Park is my favourite park in Sydney, it’s beautiful trees and gardens are unmatched.. also it’s dubious past adds another dynamic to the area.. Please take your grubby mitts off this important piece of public parkland.. and leave it for ALL the community to enjoy, not just the greedy few.

    I was impressed with the Master Plan when it first came out for its conservational, recreational and cultural balance and am especially anxious to see mental health facilities restored to Callan Park.

    Dear Mike, Why the unseemly delay in funding and implementing the approved Master Plan for Callan Park? Are you hoping that property developers will deliver more money to the Liberal Party in the future for access to Callan Park? One begins to think that there must be some devious plan at work other than the one to safeguard Callan Park. You have shown leadership on a few other issues, why not on this issue…which is a “no-brainer”?! Protect the environment; protect the community; protect us from property developers! Do something, Mike! Do something!
