Clean politics charter

Our democracy should work for everyone, not just for the corporations who can buy a seat at the table.

I have a plan for a government built for people, not big political donors. Here are six critical steps we can take right now to restore integrity and public confidence in the government:

  1. Ban all corporate political donations
Extend the existing bans on political donations to all corporations, including fossil fuel companies.

  2. Double ICAC funding
Increase funding to ICAC to extend their investigative reach.
  3. Protect whistleblowers
Whistleblowers who disclose to ICAC will be better protected in legislation from criminal, civil or disciplinary liability.

  4. Close the revolving door between big business and government
Legislate a five year ‘cooling-off period‘ for ministers, MPs and their staff before they can work in industries where they had significant dealings.

  5. Extend financial disclosure and transparency
All MPs to fully disclose their financial interests, and those of immediate family members. All lobbying meetings to be documented through publicly available minutes, published online in real time.

  6. Create new criminal offences for corrupt conduct
Introduce new laws to ensure corrupt findings by the ICAC can be easily translated into criminal charges.

Sign the Clean Politics Charter to tell both sides of politics you want a government that works for the people, not corporations.

This is the core failure that needs fixing before we can do all the other work necessary to get our country back and heading in a progressive direction.

Terrifying to realise that the government of Australia no longer represents the people they are supposed to be protecting.

Decisions of the Parliament should be objectively determined on merit, not on the basis of “he who pays the piper, calls the tune.”

All corporate donations to political parties should be banned.

We need a strong independent federal anti corruption watchdog, coupled with good whistleblower protection as well as banning of all political donations to clean up Australian politics. We also need politicians to have an equivalent of the Corporations Act which punishes lying and lack of disclosure. Limited terms for any politician ae also needed so we dont have professional politicians whose common aim is to stay in politics rather than represent the community they no longer do.

There’s so little time left to reign in the fossil fuel industry. Collective action – economical, political, social – is the only hope. congratulations to the Greens for maintaining the rage against political donations.
