Clean politics charter

Our democracy should work for everyone, not just for the corporations who can buy a seat at the table.

I have a plan for a government built for people, not big political donors. Here are six critical steps we can take right now to restore integrity and public confidence in the government:

  1. Ban all corporate political donations
Extend the existing bans on political donations to all corporations, including fossil fuel companies.

  2. Double ICAC funding
Increase funding to ICAC to extend their investigative reach.
  3. Protect whistleblowers
Whistleblowers who disclose to ICAC will be better protected in legislation from criminal, civil or disciplinary liability.

  4. Close the revolving door between big business and government
Legislate a five year ‘cooling-off period‘ for ministers, MPs and their staff before they can work in industries where they had significant dealings.

  5. Extend financial disclosure and transparency
All MPs to fully disclose their financial interests, and those of immediate family members. All lobbying meetings to be documented through publicly available minutes, published online in real time.

  6. Create new criminal offences for corrupt conduct
Introduce new laws to ensure corrupt findings by the ICAC can be easily translated into criminal charges.

Sign the Clean Politics Charter to tell both sides of politics you want a government that works for the people, not corporations.

Voters are very cheesed off about the political process, and I don’t want to see the constituency lurch any further to the loony right. The “six critical steps” identified by the Greens are essential to clean up the current quagmire and ensure people can maintain some faith in the system.

Yes Jamie I have been around long enough to be very critical of politicians who do not and will not listen to the people and take common sense actions.

Get out in the REAL world, experience fire fighting, ride with the trucks and farmers donating stock feed, go see the wild dogs ripping the intestines out of sheep as their one day old lamb tries to get it’s first drink. etc, etc, etc… I know this doesn’t happen in Balmain. I remember Darling Street being blocked so that illegal gaming machines could be craned into an establishment.

I have possibly wasted my time, in my experience politicians usually do not read the peasants scribblings.

    Regards, Roger L Miller.

how can fair decisions be made about the provision of housing/building/zoning/facilities/social housing/open spaces ect., when those decisions are no longer made on the grounds of the needs of the people decided by NSW Government Research ratified by an independent Government free of the repugnant stain of unscrupulous behaviour on behalf of those in, or involved in, decisions made in the NSW Parliament?
