Clean politics charter

Our democracy should work for everyone, not just for the corporations who can buy a seat at the table.

I have a plan for a government built for people, not big political donors. Here are six critical steps we can take right now to restore integrity and public confidence in the government:

  1. Ban all corporate political donations
Extend the existing bans on political donations to all corporations, including fossil fuel companies.

  2. Double ICAC funding
Increase funding to ICAC to extend their investigative reach.
  3. Protect whistleblowers
Whistleblowers who disclose to ICAC will be better protected in legislation from criminal, civil or disciplinary liability.

  4. Close the revolving door between big business and government
Legislate a five year ‘cooling-off period‘ for ministers, MPs and their staff before they can work in industries where they had significant dealings.

  5. Extend financial disclosure and transparency
All MPs to fully disclose their financial interests, and those of immediate family members. All lobbying meetings to be documented through publicly available minutes, published online in real time.

  6. Create new criminal offences for corrupt conduct
Introduce new laws to ensure corrupt findings by the ICAC can be easily translated into criminal charges.

Sign the Clean Politics Charter to tell both sides of politics you want a government that works for the people, not corporations.

The perception of corruption or bias towards donors is so great that anything which can reduce it will increase confidence in government. Without confidence in government we are likely to have collapse.

no more career politicians, strong federal anti-corruption watchdog required, good protection for whistleblowers, and an equivalent of the Corporations Act for politicians to comply with, ie no lying to voters, no withholding of information, limit politicians to 3 terms of parliament only so they are responsive to the community. No more donations of any sort to political parties, all funding for elections by tax payer funds.

We need strict legislation backdated and confiscating all assets from all concerned and prison sentences. No wishy washy half measures. Also life sentences for traitors which our government is full of.

Fully agree with keeping corporates away from politics. All MPs need to be free from corporate inflience of any kind.

This Coalition government is one of the most corrupt governments we have ever had. What’s best for the country comes second to their own political self-interest.

The public should know who the government’s advisors are, where they have previously worked and spouses should not be able to take over their partner’s business/shares etc when they enter parliament.
