Clean politics charter

Our democracy should work for everyone, not just for the corporations who can buy a seat at the table.

I have a plan for a government built for people, not big political donors. Here are six critical steps we can take right now to restore integrity and public confidence in the government:

  1. Ban all corporate political donations
Extend the existing bans on political donations to all corporations, including fossil fuel companies.

  2. Double ICAC funding
Increase funding to ICAC to extend their investigative reach.
  3. Protect whistleblowers
Whistleblowers who disclose to ICAC will be better protected in legislation from criminal, civil or disciplinary liability.

  4. Close the revolving door between big business and government
Legislate a five year ‘cooling-off period‘ for ministers, MPs and their staff before they can work in industries where they had significant dealings.

  5. Extend financial disclosure and transparency
All MPs to fully disclose their financial interests, and those of immediate family members. All lobbying meetings to be documented through publicly available minutes, published online in real time.

  6. Create new criminal offences for corrupt conduct
Introduce new laws to ensure corrupt findings by the ICAC can be easily translated into criminal charges.

Sign the Clean Politics Charter to tell both sides of politics you want a government that works for the people, not corporations.

Might one suggest that this incumbent government is aware that they will be losing the next election and are making preparations to ensure their future protection from prosecution. This is the question that one asked recently of the Premier, so far have not had a response.

It is a sad state of affairs when dishonesty is rife. I remember clearly the police corruption of years ago also. Why this greed! One can only wear one pair of shoes at a time!

I am a strong advocate for vigilance against corruption in government. In my more than seven decades of living, I have lived in a developing country and seen much of the third world where corruption was and is rampant. We must watch out against official corruption to ensure that we remain in the first world.

    Thank you

A builder told me the new buildings going up are cheap to maximise profits, the certifirers look after their mates, cheap products used and leaks will develop. Too much is being destroyed and public assets being sold against the wishes of the community, therefore, we need ICAC to have enough staff to do their job.

I am shocked that politicians are allowed free rein to treat the taxpayers money as a golden calf. The closeness to business and conflicts of interest are at an all time high, this is ruining the Australian economy and faith in political processes.

political corruption is destroying our country and our democracy. The influence of political donations and lobbyists, the revolving door between public office and industry results in government for the powerful and wealthy and not the common good in our community.

I was appalled to hear of the Berejiklian government’s decision to maintain Baird’s funding cuts to ICAC. There is so much corruption in Australian politics we need to increase funding to NSW ICAC and put in place a federal ICAC.
