The government has scrapped plans to turn the Dan Murphy’s site at Darley Rd Leichhardt into a dive site for WestConnex.

For years, I’ve been working with community groups and residents to defend Leichhardt against the destructive impacts of WestConnex both at Darley Rd and at another proposed site near Haberfield Public.

Our community needs world class public transport not the destruction, traffic and pollution that this massive toll road will bring.

Thank you to everyone who has rallied behind this campaign and especially to Leichhardt Against WestConnex who have been incredibly tenacious and dedicated. They are a key reason for this victory. This win proves that when communities like ours band together, we can achieve big things.

This is a huge step forward, but much work lies ahead. This Liberal government is still focused on delivering for vested interests and the big end of town. I want to see this project scrapped and funds redirected towards world-class public transport.

As you know, the Greens were successful in securing a parliamentary inquiry into the impact of WestConnex so we'll soon have more details about how to make a submission and get involved.
