Hundreds rally to save Dawny

Hundreds gathered at Dawn Fraser Baths Saturday for a rally to support Dawny as a $2.2m Inner West Council funding shortfall threatens the future of the pool.

Commenting on the rally Jamie Parker MP, Member for Balmain said:

“I’m strongly backing the Council’s application for a sports grant from the NSW government to fund the $2.2m shortfall they need to get the work done.

“Today’s rally sends a clear message that Dawny is an asset this community needs.

“I was thrilled to stand shoulder to shoulder with the hundreds who turned out to support our pool today.

“Dawny is loved by people across Sydney and given the Baths are state heritage listed, the state government needs to step up and contribute.

“Local rate payers shouldn’t have  to carry the full $6.7m bill and it can’t wait until the next election.

“This state government can spend over a billion dollars on stadia but won’t make a commitment to this state heritage listed pool.

“State government funding would save Council cutting funds from other important local projects and ensure this pool can continue into the future.”
