Greens MP Jamie Parker this week successfully moved a motion at Leichhardt Council to report on the incidence of tree poisoning in the inner west and to address a range of potential solutions.
“Our communities are much richer due to the presence of trees and green space. The fact that some people are maliciously damaging and poisoning trees is beyond comprehension and absolutely disgusting,” said Mr Parker.
“There are more effective means of addressing this important issue and local government can take the lead.”
Pittwater Council recently offered a reward of $10,000 for information on six vandalised trees, which demonstrates a positive approach.
“I am committed to doing everything I can to prevent further attacks and safeguard our green spaces.”
Mr Parker said he is confident the Council’s report will provide additional insights into solutions.
"These trees are part of our heritage and deserve additional protection."
