Media Release: NSW Greens call for Crown’s licence to be torn up following Bergin report

The NSW Greens anti-corruption spokesperson Jamie Parker MP has called for Crown’s licence to be revoked following the release of the Bergin report which found Crown Resorts is not fit to hold a casino licence in NSW.

In 2013 the NSW Government and Labor Opposition voted together to support legislation to abandon Sydney’s one-casino policy and deliver prime public waterfront land at Barangaroo, intended for a public greenspace, to Crown Resorts.

At the time, Jamie Parker MP was one of only three MPs to oppose the casino along with independents Greg Piper and Alex Greenwich.

Jamie Parker the NSW Greens spokesperson for anti-corruption says:

“The sweetheart deal that the Coalition Government struck with Crown has completely blown up in their face.

“This government has bent over backwards to accommodate a multi-million dollar gambling corporation only to find that their business practices are so rotten they aren’t even fit to hold a licence in NSW.

“The response from the NSW Government today has been pitiful and shows just how deep into Crown Casino’s pockets they really are.

“The Government should revoke Crown’s licence and find a better use for this site. The last thing this city needs is another mega gambling factory on public land.

“Today’s report should be a wake-up call not just for Crown but the whole gambling industry in NSW.

“The gambling and casino industry needs greater scrutiny including a new Independent Casino Commission that has the resources it will need to hold these mega corporations to account. They shouldn’t be allowed to go back to business as usual after what has been uncovered in today’s report,” he says.
