No WestConnex mid-point tunnel site in Leichhardt

Sign our letter telling the Minister for WestConnex we don't want a damaging and dangerous tunnel site in Leichhardt.

Dear Minister

As a member of the local community I believe that the previously proposed Darley Road site is patently unacceptable as a mid point tunnel location for WestConnex.

This mid point tunnel excavation site will remain for up to four years, with significant traffic and safety impacts both on residents and people across the inner west region.

Residents of Leichhardt do not want a drill site. We are highly concerned about the traffic and safety impacts both on local residents and people across the Inner West region. We therefore call on you to cancel any plans to drill at the Darley Road site in Leichhardt. 

This is yet another example of the kind of planning on the run which has been characteristic of the flawed WestConnex project since the start, and one more reason why it should be abandoned.

    I can not fathom the shortsightedness of anyone proposing such a ludicrous plan in the 21st century with all the global problems we have beginning with overpopulation; housing; traffic; pollution and so on…to propose a plan where you a clogging up a beautiful city with freeways/expressways and therefore inviting more traffic and pollution is criminal, and those heading this should be hung, drawn and quartered! Get someone involved who can think outside the box…who can keep Sydney beautiful and stress free; who can take a leaf out of Brazil’s city ‘Curitiba’ which won many awards for a Global Sustainable City; someone who is not in it for the glory and money, but for wanting to do the right thing by all the people that live in the areas being affected by the construction!!! Hand this back to the people/communities, and let them come up with the ideas of combatting these problems not some self-promoting politician who is only in it for the short term and disappears after the damage is done!

    WestCONnex won’t work, public transport will. WestCONnex does not have a place in contemporary urban environments, let alone densely populated inner urban residential areas. Improve light rail capacity in place of private toll roads, increase bicycle and walking options and other forms of public transport to build an eminently more livable city for current residents and businesses and those who come. Leichhardt/Lilyfield is NOT appropriate for this ill-considered mid-way dive site. Do not destroy our community with a toll road we don’t want or need.
