No privatisation: keep the Powerhouse petition

Read more on Jamie's record to save the Powerhouse

Dear Premier,

I am writing to strongly protest against the sale of the Powerhouse building in Ultimo to property developers. This building is an integral part of Sydney’s unique landscape and should be kept for the public to enjoy.

The Powerhouse Museum is an important part of the city’s cultural life, and to see the building converted into apartments and taken away from the community is a disaster for all Australians.

Nationally significant buildings should be kept in public hands to ensure their preservation and long-term public use, rather than sold off to the highest bidder.

Yours sincerely,

I used to live in various Inner West suburbs over the last 2 decades before moving to where I live now, & still frequent family friends in the area so this is an important issue for all of us.

The only reason that the NSW government wants this wonderful icon moved, is to gain a few dollars – short-term dollars…. why is this always the case with the Liberals… & I thought things maybe on the improve for our state but unfortunately the dollar signs win out… & not for the betterment of our wonderful state… AGAIN.

The heritage value of the site can be preserved by keeping it ag its current and original location. It would be irresponsible to do otherwise.

It is also important for the many visitors (overseas and within Australia) who visit our lovely City. Parramatta is not a suitable location for those who have limited time.

So the ever-increasing inner-city population will have to go to Parramatta to see Powerhouse Museum displays. I don’t get it … oh sorry, development!

We already have enough poorly developed apartment blocks in the outer CBD.eg CENTRAL PARK ( Old Carlton Brewery ). They have had serious issues with poorly manufactured Windows to the noncompliant fixings used on all the planter boxes that are on the outer building face.Danger Danger Danger…

    How dose this even happen?

    Easy, unregulated and unqualified/skilled workers…..

Its only going to get worse if we keep providing overseas employment instead of TRAINING and providing REAL employment opportunities to Australians..

You only have to look in the weekend papers to see all of the new glossy cad drawn apartment adds. Most are Chinese developers.

Who will get most off the work? Who will be able to afford to buy them???

what a waste of public money relocating this to parramatta. just leave it where it is. Its perfectly located for all the sydney public to use in central sydney. not to be sold off to liberal party donating developers/lobbiests etc.

The Powerhouse is too significant a building to loose to development . It is part of our industrial heritage. The west already has a powerhouse satellite at Castle Hill which has just been upgraded. There are thousands of significant items still in storage in Sydney( under the Harbour bridge storage areas) which could fill another Powerhouse without ripping the guts from this purpose- redesigned home . We need to do more to save this !

My two boys when they were young spent many a day at the Powerhouse Museum especially enjoying the machinery and other special exhibitions. I have also visited many exhibitions but if it is moved to Parramatta won’t be travelling out there. Why can’t the government built a similar Museum in Parramatta they certainly have the funds………

Please keep the powerhouse where it is. This is because it is for all sydney, not just parramatta.

After all, the eastern suburbs, inner city, north as well as the west need access.

There already is an extension centre at Liverpool, and adding a second extension centre in the proposed UWS tower at Parramatta makes sense too.

Be fair, including to your consitutents in the east as well as the west
