POULTRY REVIEW SUBMISSION

Last chance to make a submission to free hens from battery cages once and for all.

To the Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines review,

I write to ask that the Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Poultry be amended to include a nationwide ban of battery cages and cruel farming practices including but not limited to debeaking, forced moulting, and food and water deprivation.  It is unacceptable that these animals have been condemned to a life of cruelty and exploitation just for the production of cheap eggs.

The Australian public refuses to allow these cruelties to continue and it is time that the standards reflect that.

Good animal welfare is a combination of physical and mental wellbeing and natural living. None of these are currently being granted to egg-laying hens. They need space to move, nest and behave naturally.

So I ask you, please join the ACT, Europe, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Canada in banning the battery cage, debeaking and other cruel farming methods and help improve the lives of millions of hens all around Australia.

Kind regards,

I have been shocked to see the mistreatment of hens in poultry farms in a so called civilized society. Eggs are a nutritious addition to our diet and even free range eggs are absolutely affordable to a pensioner like myself.

It is unacceptable to see animals suffer in the way they do, being exploited for financial gain. I ask that we join the rest of the world in stopping cruel practices to these sentient beings.

Hens are sentient and sapient creatures with behavioural needs, like walking, dustbathing, pecking and scratching in the earth, safe nesting places in quietness.. As members of Planet Earth community they have the right to have their needs met.

This matter of battery hens should have been solved ages ago. The battery hen/egg producers have had enough time to change their practices or get out of the business.

The caged hens industry is unbelievably cruel and needs to be turned into a free range situation then everyone (hens much included) will be winners. Proper free range eggs are so much better in every way to eggs of caged birds.

    Sir/Ms,

It does not take much to be kind to animals. Cruelty begets cruelty.

Hens need to be roaming free. Greedy factory farmers have been allowed for too long to inflict shocking levels of cruelty upon these intelligent birds. Stop this barbaric industry.
