POULTRY REVIEW SUBMISSION

Last chance to make a submission to free hens from battery cages once and for all.

To the Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines review,

I write to ask that the Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Poultry be amended to include a nationwide ban of battery cages and cruel farming practices including but not limited to debeaking, forced moulting, and food and water deprivation.  It is unacceptable that these animals have been condemned to a life of cruelty and exploitation just for the production of cheap eggs.

The Australian public refuses to allow these cruelties to continue and it is time that the standards reflect that.

Good animal welfare is a combination of physical and mental wellbeing and natural living. None of these are currently being granted to egg-laying hens. They need space to move, nest and behave naturally.

So I ask you, please join the ACT, Europe, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Canada in banning the battery cage, debeaking and other cruel farming methods and help improve the lives of millions of hens all around Australia.

Kind regards,

Subjecting hens to living conditions that have been banned in many developed nations, for the sake of cheap eggs, is unacceptable, especially in a rich, developed nation. Please amend the Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Poultry to include a nationwide ban of battery cages. Thank you.

Cruelty is simply bad practice that impacts on the food chain as animals are fed drugs and artificial lighting and are modified physically to produce flavourless and nutritionally compromised product – it is bad for them and us

Raise standards for hens: ban cages & set limits to the number of hens per hectare. Several companies now state the ratios on the egg cartons. All egg producers should do so, & there should be appropriate inspection & enforcement of standards.

Compassion and empathy are sorely lacking in today’s world – for both humans and animals. Every living being is entitled to live the best life possible – even little feathery ones.

There is absolutely no excuse for battery hens. The cruelty is clear, and people do not need ultra cheap chicken based on unspeakable suffering.

Cruel practices such as keeping hens in tiny cages should have been abandoned long ago since that is not the case its high time now to show the world more humane practices than was the case in the past say no to keeping farm animals in small confined cages with restricted movements preventing them from having a natural life and enough space to exhibit their natural behaviours that add to the quality of life this is something they have been deprived of for far too long time to give them back those simple yet vital rights to move and display their natural behaviours that prevent stress and discomfort.
