Save Wentworth Park

We need to tell the government that Wentworth Park should be kept as an open space for people, not built over for profit.

The government and their developers are eyeing Wentworth Park for redevelopment as part of the Bays Precinct.

Please sign the petition to ask Premier Berejiklian to keep Wentworth Park safe from developers:

Dear Premier,

I urge you to protect Wentworth Park from development by handing it back to the City of Sydney, and expand recreation and sporting facilities in the area, which is already one of the most densely populated in Australia.

All open space in this densely populated city should be kept. The more high rise homes are built the more people need areas to walk and relax.

You have a responsibility to provide an holistic city environment which means adequate open/public space, not just serving the interest of developers. Act like you are leading the way and leave Wentworth Park for the community

We hope that one day soon the Glebe District Rugby League Football Club a.k.a. the ‘Dirty Reds’ will make their long-awaited return (not since 1929) to play at their spiritual home of Wentworth Park.

Wentworth Park is a critical piece of green recreation space in one of Australia’s highest density suburbs. To alienate any portion for housing or commercial development would amount to urban vandalism by government.

We are loosing green space increasingly…obesity will become more of an issue if we have no open space for physical activity not to mention further depleting the inner city of trees!

I’ve always maintained that the attempt to close down greyhound racing was/is part of a land grab and this Bays Precinct project confirms that. Ethics of greyhound racing aside, a land grab is a land grab, no matter who is doing it or what their cover story is.

Interestingly, in a current attack of the poor of the area homeless people are already being squeezed out of the area by camping backpackers who pitch tents under the Wentworth Park railway bridge. A new development will see these tourists replaced by more up-market tourists, because 5 will get you 10 that an international hotel is on the agenda to privatise the foreshore. (of course the cement company that is a subsidiary of the German company that profits from Israel’s occupation of Palestine – they supply the cement for the walls – would go under those circumstances – won’t say I’ll miss them)
