Dear Resident,
Submissions on the development application close 5pm Friday 4 December 2015 so please make sure you have your say.
The developer is back with a new proposal for two towers of eight and twelve storeys, 135 apartments, 369 car spaces, large retail area, a proposed pedestrian bridge over Victoria Road. There is also space for the leagues club, but at market rent!
It is yet another over-development of the site that will lead to traffic gridlock, ruin our high street retail and monster the surrounding residents.
The developer has already taken the application to the Land and Environment Court where it will be determined early next year.
Your submission to Leichhardt Council is important. It will demonstrate to the Court the strong feeling that exists in the community about this excessive development.
All submissions will be delivered to Council before the deadline. You can find more information on Council's website.
I have been working for close to 10 years to ensure that we have appropriate and sustainable development on this site, and I thank all of you who have worked so hard to protect what is special about our community.
Yours sincerely,
Jamie Parker MP

Submission: D/2015/438 138-152 Victoria Road ROZELLE
I write to outline my strong opposition to the latest proposal for the redevelopment of the former Balmain Leagues Club site.
There remains an opportunity to clean up the current eye sore, and have a reasonable development of the site but the current proposal cannot be supported for the following reasons:
- The eight and twelve storey towers are completely out of proportion with the surrounding pattern of development in Rozelle.
- Surrounding residences and businesses will have unacceptable impacts from overshadowing and overlooking.
- The enormous scale of the retail component (including supermarket) and 135 apartments will generate traffic volumes that will overwhelm local streets and threaten our main street businesses.
- There is no guarantee that Balmain Leagues Club will return to the site.
- There is no guarantee the pedestrian bridge will be constructed.

The local school does not need anymore traffic noise and pollution.
The whole development is so out of scope with the surrounding area.
*too dense
*have you seen the traffic on Victoria Road? I thought not.
I agree to all that has been indicated in “I want my voice to count on development of former Tigers Club.” I am most concerned about our lovely community – with Rozelle Markets changing Management, Callan Park, once again, fighting against “other” uses other than for the purposes to assist Australian Citizens, Forced amalgamations, White Bay proposals etc. etc. – and short notification on development thus preventing submissions “for or against” by residents and the community. This is all on top of the West Connex. To manage these submissions is very time consuming.
To me it appears that governments are trying to dismantle communities and small business to a point where they don’t exist anymore. Is there an affordable housing component in the new plans? If I can remember correctly, years ago, this was part of new developments! The constant consultancies, changing directions, forcing those in the community to move after generations of hard work to maintain a vibrant community who cares for the people and not just a piece of real estate (whether they live there or not). With all these constant changes within communities – it is a complete wonder how anything is functional and vibrant. Why can’t the old Tigers Club be revamped to provide a Club (permanently and well managed) and to provide residents with for example, not only affordable housing (funded by Family & Community Services (HNSW), and for 1st home buyers (without the huge deposits required) as most young people in the area are paying excessive rents which prohibit the accumulation of savings. By the way, residents of City West have informed that they no longer will be housing people of “Low Incomes”. So much for forward thinking. I could go on and on, but as I work, time is of the essence. Oh, they should not be towers – the historical and cultural aspects of Rozelle and Balmain etc. would be lost in grotesque, cold and impersonal high rises.
The scale of this is completely out of character for the area and will have significant traffic implications on an already disastrous commuter corridor.
