Greens MP Jamie Parker has stepped in to help finalise the licensing agreements for two new sporting fields in Balmain and Leichhardt, after months of fruitless Council negotiations failed to produce the necessary approvals.
"I'm pleased to have secured a commitment from the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority that the licensing agreements will be approved this week," Mr Parker said.
"Despite months of ongoing Council debate and meaningless rhetoric, local families are still waiting for genuine action on the issue of sporting fields.
"I'm disappointed Council didn't approach me to assist with representations to SHFA earlier, as it is clear Mayor Darcy Byrne has been struggling to achieve a result.
"We need to work together to ensure local kids have access to local sporting fields. I'm committed to working to help deliver them as soon as possible.
"I encourage Council to undertake genuine community consultation on issues such as lighting and traffic management to ensure all matters are taken into account," Mr Parker said.
