Keep sugar out of school canteens

sugar_in_schools_page.jpg

NSW guidelines for food labelling in school canteens are more than 10 years old, and out of step with national and international standards.

This petition of citizens of NSW brings to the attention of the House that the Australian dietary guidelines were updated in 2013 and as a result food and drinks containing added sugar were shifted into the "limited intake category" yet school canteen guidelines in NSW still rely on outdated 2003 national guidelines.

The undersigned petitioners therefore ask the Legislative Assembly to undertake an open and public review of the NSW Healthy Schools Canteen Strategy to bring it into line with the 2013 Australian dietary guidelines, reduce added sugar in school canteens and prioritise the long-term health of children.

Pledge your support for our campaign to reduce added sugar in schools on this online petition and we will send you a paper petition through the mail.

Childhood obesity needs to be addressed!! There is no reason that young children should be overweight. We all need to make a change to address this situation!

Too much sugar badly effects children’s concentration. Thete is so many better choices. Let their parents give the treats at home.
