The Inner West Council is currently considering a massive redevelopment proposal for 40 – 76 William St, Leichhardt.
While our community welcomes the appropriate conversion of commercial buildings, this development proposal significantly exceeds the planning rules and is out of character with the local area.
I’m concerned about:
- Proposal to build 181 units at a density that is in excess of the planning rules. The developer is seeking an exemption from the limits on floor space ratio to develop the entire site and add a 6 storey apartment building at the rear.
- Overshadowing and loss of privacy if a six storey apartment tower is constructed overshadowing residents living on the Allen Estate, North Street and Francis Street.
- Pressure on local parking as there are 155 resident car spaces for 181 apartments.
- Traffic choke points being created at the entry to a 183 space car park on Francis Street.

Birds eye view of development.
