Acquisitions show WestConnex desperation

Several properties on Lilyfield Road have been acquired and earmarked for the WestConnex toll road project, despite the fact that public consultations are ongoing and formal planning permission has not yet been issued.

“This makes a mockery of the public consultation process and highlights that the Liberal government is more interested in serving their development industry mates than genuinely hearing from the community," said Greens Member for Balmain Jamie Parker MP.

Community submissions on WestConnex’s third stage, which is slated to go through Haberfield, Rozelle and St Peters, are open until October 16.

“There can be no genuine consultation on the proposal, which is currently open for public input, when the government is acquiring land as if their project is already approved,” Mr Parker said.

"[These acquisitions] demonstrate just how desperate the government is to ensure the project is a seen as fait accompli, despite huge community opposition and lukewarm support from investors.”
