DA lodged for former Balmain Tigers Leagues Club

Property developer Heworth Development has entered a development application for the former Balmain Tigers Leagues Club site.

Commenting on the development application, Jamie Parker MP for Balmain said:

“This site has been stuck in a stalemate for almost ten years, so I’m open to working with the new owner in a positive fashion to ensure we get a great outcome for the community.

“The people of Rozelle don’t want to wait another ten years watching this site become more and more derelict. They also aren’t interested in a skyscraper that’s going to create traffic havoc on local streets.

“While I’m concerned that there has been no change to the bulk and scale of this application from what we saw in the pre-DA, I am pleased that Heworth Development is now negotiating with Council to reopen the car park behind the Club on Waterloo Street.

“In the short term, local residents are worried that this site has become a magnet for crime and anti-social behavior. I’m calling on the new owner to demonstrate an act of goodwill towards the community by cleaning up this dilapidated site and opening the carpark for public use.

“I’m committed to ensuring we get an appropriate development on this site and see the return of the Balmain Tigers to their spiritual home.
