$50 million for new 10-hectare parkland at Rozelle

Access to greenspace is essential not just for our environment and the liveability of our city, but for our health and well-being.

That is why I'm so pleased that the site of the former Rozelle Rail Yards is set to be transformed into one of the largest green spaces in inner Sydney – the Rozelle Parklands.

For many of us who have endured years of noise, dust, and disruption from WestConnex it is a huge relief to know this 10-hectare site will become a parkland, not more residential development once WestConnex construction is complete.

I’m so pleased that we have secured a budget of $50 million from the NSW Government to fully fund the Rozelle Parklands – a huge increase on the $15 million originally proposed.

This is a huge win for our community and means that ratepayers will not have to foot the bill for fitting out this new parkland.

It is important that we get the balance right between sporting fields, open space, facilities for young children, and habitat for local wildlife.

Councillor Kobi Shetty and I are also building our campaign to ensure the three exhaust stacks being built alongside the parkland are filtered.

Thank you to everyone in the community who has helped make this great win happen.
