A win for the community on single-use plastic bags

This week in Parliament I spoke out on the need for NSW to ban plastic bags.

I bring to the attention of the House the issue of single‑use plastic bags. First, I congratulate the many people in our community who have worked so hard for so long to advocate for our environment, and who have put pressure on the two big supermarkets in particular to change their approach to the issuing of single-use plastic bags.

Together, we have held rallies, made speeches, marched, written letters, created petitions, made videos and participated in a range of creative actions. Our collective efforts paid off just two weeks ago when Woolworths, Coles and Harris Farm Markets announced they would stop supplying single-use plastic bags.
