According to the WestConnex M4-M5 Link interactive map showing the proposed tunnel depths throughout the Inner West, many homes located above parts of the route will be potentially irrevocably damaged.
Jenny Leong MP:
“Work on the M4-M5 WestConnex 8-lane tunnel should be stopped immediately as the impact on many residents’ homes along the route will be disastrous.
“Depths of between 16-25 metres under many residential streets in Camperdown, Annandale and Leichhardt are extremely worrying given the severe impacts we have already seen on homes in other areas at deeper tunneling depths,” she said.
“Residents whose homes have been badly damaged by WestConnex tunneling have had to fight in the courts to prove the damage was caused by WestConnex - this outrageous denial of accountability shows just how corrupt the whole process is.
“The Greens are calling on the government to stop this deeply flawed project and stop more damage to the homes and lives of people living along the route.
Jamie Parker MP:
“Shallow tunneling increases the risk of damage to homes. Homeowners could face serious, permanent damage to their homes as well as ground noise and vibration if this plan goes ahead.
“This proposal completely ignores the recent experience of residents in Strathfield, Concord and Homebush who have seen huge cracks form through their homes as contractors burrow to build the M4 East.
“Why is the government doing the same but expecting a different result in our area?
“The government is so desperate to please private toll companies they will push this project through with zero regard for local residents and our local community."
