Dear Premier,

I am writing to strongly protest against the sale of the Powerhouse building in Ultimo to property developers. This building is an integral part of Sydney’s unique landscape and should be kept for the public to enjoy.

The Powerhouse Museum is an important part of the city’s cultural life, and to see the building converted into apartments and taken away from the community is a disaster for all Australians.

Nationally significant buildings should be kept in public hands to ensure their preservation and long-term public use, rather than sold off to the highest bidder.

    This museum was a large part of my childhood, and I look back on my time there so fondly. I am now 18 years old and it truly breaks my heart that I will no longer be able to visit the steam train, the interactive experimentations exhibition, or any of the beautiful, historical artefacts on display. This move to Parramatta is economically and culturally unethical and unnecessary.

    dear Premier since the Liberals got in NSW has losted so much Heritage i.e houses etc for the over supply of Appartment Buildings that are destroying suburbs and i really feel you need to leave the Power House Museum alone leave where it is

    The Powerhouse is a uniquely beautiful building brilliantly adapted to display the MAAS Collection.

    It is inconceivable & financially irresponsible to consider moving the collection to another site and scrapping the historic structure.

    Build a new building in Western Sydney to display more of the magnificent MAAS collection.

    The Power House Museum is a NSW cultural institution. All NSW people need it accessible in central Sydney with its centrally focused transport systems. Sydney is the entry point for the majority of Australian international visitors and the PHM should be highly visible to them with its focus on Australia’s achievements and developments in innovative design, technology and science, past, currently and for the future.

    No real global City would Ever consider uprooting a magnificent purpose built museum, with well over a century of continuous, ongoing connection to institutions in it’s vicinity & history!! Like Many who lived in outer NW Sydney I always enjoyed travelling into the city to the major cultural institutions; THE CITY IS EASY FOR EVERYONE ALL OVER THE METROPOLITAN, REGIONAL & INTERSTATE AREAS TO GET TO; PARRAMATTA MOST DEFINITELY IS NOT!!! However I would support an annexe of the Museum be built in Sydney’s West as in many overseas countries, although they are usually in another city, not within the metropolitan area. The proposal to sell off such a site & building for development smacks of corruption & sheer greed!!! I suggest looking to the enormous success of The Powerhouse for many years; before the fashion for ‘dumbing down’, took hold, & I note internationally that trend is being reversed… With much success!

    The much welcomed and attractive new access of the recently opened Goods Line from Central station to the Power House, China Town, new Convention Centre and Exhibition Centre (for local, interstate and overseas visitors), escalation of hotel accomodation in Darling Harbour, the UTS, and the opening of Barrangaroo will now surely attract thousands of visitors to the existing Power House Museum.

    It is critical that we keep the story of this historic hub of old Sydney for future generations in its present location.

    There should be a new Museum built in Parramatta to reflect its past and present history and for the many new generations in that area to proudly build together.

    The powerhouse Museum building is a Sydney icon. Developers have no concern for the city, the environment or people. It is about the developer and how much money they can make. We need sympathetic improvements not holistic money grabbing.

    I am a proud Foundation Member and supporter of the Powerhouse Museum.

    The is Museum has its roots in the precinct in which it is currently located’ ie. that of the old ‘Sydney Tech’ and that is what makes it very special to Sydney

    Are we to loose what little we have left of our short cultural heritage.?

    The day the Powerhouse moves is the day I will no longer support or be a member!!!

    The Powerhouse Museum is a significant part of Sydney’s cultural heritage. I enjoy visiting it when in Sydney but would be unlikely to travel to Parramatta. Many tourists would also give it a miss if it is so inconveniently located.

    Save the Powerhouse from money grabbing developers. Powerhouse is monumental and belongs to the citizens of Sydney. The cost of relocation is enormous. Parramatta needs a museum as well as the Powerhouse @ Ultimo. Mr Baird listen to the citizens!
