Dawn Fraser baths saved by $2.2m grant

Today the government will announce $2.2 million in funding for the Dawn Fraser Baths to fully fund urgent upgrades to Balmain’s iconic local pool.

The Inner West Council had been unable to find the remaining funds to secure the future of the Baths and made an application to the Greater Sydney Sports Facility Fund, backed by Jamie Parker MP.

Over 1,300 people signed a petition calling on the Minister for Sport to support Council’s grant application. See here.

Jamie Parker MP, Member for Balmain said:

“I am delighted to be able to announce that we’ve secured $2.2 million in funding to fully fund the urgent heritage upgrades needed at Dawny.

“This is a huge win for our community and will mean that Dawn Fraser Baths can be enjoyed for many summers to come.

"I spoke directly to the Minister for Sport and the Premier, highlighting the importance of the pool and presented a petition of over 1,300 signatures from our community.

“Dawn Fraser Baths are a truly special local landmark and I’m so delighted that our community has been able to secure the funding needed to save our pool.

"Thank you to the 1,300 local residents who signed my petition as well as Inner West Council staff who made the grant application.

"Thanks also go to the Department and the Minister for Sport who developed this fund to upgrade and develop sporting infrastructure like our Dawny.

"This win demonstrates that when the community work together we can achieve outstanding results.

"This is funding comes in addition to $2 million in grant funding that I have already secured for schools, heritage upgrades, community groups and sporting clubs for the Balmain electorate,” he said.
