Allow dogs into pubs

dogs_cropped.jpg

I'm proposing an amendment to current laws to give the owners of pubs the right to decide whether dogs are allowed into their indoor areas.

More information about dogs in pubs here

Please sign our petition to ask the Premier of NSW to support my legislation allowing pub proprietors to decide if dogs are allowed into pubs.

Dear Premier,

Dog-friendly pubs are a key ingredient of the charm and unique atmosphere in many places in NSW.

The ability to bring a well behaved dog into their establishment is a key driver of custom for many pubs and hotels.

We believe that there’s a strong argument for changing these restrictive laws to allow pub proprietors to have the right to welcome dogs into their establishments, as they can in the UK and parts of Europe.

Please support the proposed changes to the Companion Animals Act to help pubs in NSW become more dog-friendly if they choose to do so.

Yours sincerely,

This should be taken further and dogs allowed in National Parks.

I’ve spoken to a vet regarding this and they agreed if dogs are put through a proper temperament assessment, registered through National Parks, kept strictly on leads at all times, be subject to Ranger checks for registration and owners paying a yearly fee there would be minimal disruption to flora and fauna. Benefits would include revenue for National Parks and the general dog owning public enjoying Australian nature.

No one would take an ill behaved dog into a pub, similarly no one would do the same in a National Park!

We should adopt the same laws as countries in Europe and North America who allow dogs in restaurants, bars, public transport, and hotels/motels. No ones been adversely affected there so I’m not sure what disasters our governments think will happen here if it’s allowed.

They allow dogs everywhere in Europe and have for many years. They are in restaurants and hotels. Put a limit on weight of dog for a start. Do research on Europe. Most single people and baby boomers have fur children so think of the money and the atmosphere they will bring.

Dogs in pubs was the whole charm of Paddington. Now our pooch feels left out when we go for dinner.
