No privatisation: keep the Powerhouse petition

Read more on Jamie's record to save the Powerhouse

Dear Premier,

I am writing to strongly protest against the sale of the Powerhouse building in Ultimo to property developers. This building is an integral part of Sydney’s unique landscape and should be kept for the public to enjoy.

The Powerhouse Museum is an important part of the city’s cultural life, and to see the building converted into apartments and taken away from the community is a disaster for all Australians.

Nationally significant buildings should be kept in public hands to ensure their preservation and long-term public use, rather than sold off to the highest bidder.

Yours sincerely,

Another unique historic building being sold off to developers.

We could have a second museum at Parramatta. No need to rob Peter to pay Paul.

The Powerhouse Museum has more than just intrinsic value to the residents of Ultimo and Pyrmont: it’s a wonderful resource for our local universities and schools. What next for the developers in the area?….how about building in the Domain?……oh, that’s right, that looks like happening….wonderful arts oriented Liberal Party….not!

We must not allow a major cultural institution to be destroyed for a property deal.

Such a small part of the Powerhouse’s collection is on display at any one time. Ultimo should be retained and there is still plenty of the collection that could form the nucleus of a Western Sydney Technology and Science Museum

I was really distressed to hear this news. I have visited the Powerhouse several times when I have been in Sydney, I love it. something I wouldn’t do if it was in Western Sydney

I also remember going to the original museum when I was a teenager in 1960s

I have fond memories from when I was a child visiting the Science & Technology Museum at Ultimo as it was known then and seeing a lunar module and the Strasburg clock. The experience helped to tweak my interest in science and design. I currently work nearby the museum and have taken children there on excursions and it would be a travesty to loose this resource for current and future generations of students, Sydney siders and tourists alike, that flock to the Power House museum on a daily basis.
