Dear Premier,

I am writing to strongly protest against the sale of the Powerhouse building in Ultimo to property developers. This building is an integral part of Sydney’s unique landscape and should be kept for the public to enjoy.

The Powerhouse Museum is an important part of the city’s cultural life, and to see the building converted into apartments and taken away from the community is a disaster for all Australians.

Nationally significant buildings should be kept in public hands to ensure their preservation and long-term public use, rather than sold off to the highest bidder.

    Very Sad. The Powerhouse has inspired many of the nation’s leading designers and thinkers. Further too many pieces of Crown land are being sold for short term book balancing.

    Parramatta can have a new gallery maybe with a history of our Aboriginal culture.

    As a long-term member of the Powerhouse museum i have a good appreciation of the place it has as a repository of knowledge and history. It’s location is very convenient for schools in the inner west which use it for school excursions. Selling it off for housing is a transparent attempt to get rid of valuable public assets with no apparent advantage for the public who currently make use of it. By all means spend more on art and culture in Western Sydney, but leave the Powerhouse Museum where it is in Ultimo.

    This is a beautiful historic building! Why must it be sold to the highest bidder & destroyed? Why must we lose our past for the sake of a quick dollar? Part of the allure of going to the Powerhouse Museum is the amazing building, which contributes to the learning opportunity.

    not every piece of land is an opportunity for the private sector to exploit. keep the powerhouse where it is for all to enjoy, build another one in parramatta. tell developers and the liberal govt to pull their heads in.
