No privatisation: keep the Powerhouse petition

Read more on Jamie's record to save the Powerhouse

Dear Premier,

I am writing to strongly protest against the sale of the Powerhouse building in Ultimo to property developers. This building is an integral part of Sydney’s unique landscape and should be kept for the public to enjoy.

The Powerhouse Museum is an important part of the city’s cultural life, and to see the building converted into apartments and taken away from the community is a disaster for all Australians.

Nationally significant buildings should be kept in public hands to ensure their preservation and long-term public use, rather than sold off to the highest bidder.

Yours sincerely,

I was talking about this with my teaching friends today, all four of whom work in the western suburbs, and all four of whom agreed that this move will not boost educational prospects for the museums. Schools visit the harbour as well as The Powerhouse Museum, one friend expressing "schools don’t just go on an excursion to The powerhouse museum, they go to the harbour!’

Appalling decision pandering to developer mates of the govt. The Castle Hill repository should be turned into a second museum (currently being renovated, open to the public in 2016 I’m told).

The Powerhouse Museum has appeal from the young to the old, for locals and visitors to our city. How dare the liberal Government take away this public icon.

Keep P H at Ultimo and exhibit the thousands of items currently in storage, in a new one in Parramatta on the river so accessible by ferry and rail So two P H No need to keep selling off publically owned buildings and infrastructure such as power lines/poles etc just to benefit construction industry. A shame if all of Darling Harbour becomes high rise residential the harbour belongs to all people not just wealthy High rise will destroy our harbour foreshore

Short sighted. Powerhouse belongs to all Australians as does the land it stands on.

The Powerhouse was such an icon for me growing up in Sydney. A magnificent institution and powerful educational & cultural tool! It is essential to preserve it.

I’m in favour of the development of a site for the Powerhouse Museum in Parramatta, but as a companion to the Powerhouse in Ultimo. It would be a terrible shame to lose this institution from inner Sydney. With the regeneration of Darling Harbour, the Powerhouse Museum is in a perfect position to enjoy an influx of visitors. Even if commercial imperatives mean that the Powerhouse must be relocated, then it’s crucial that the Ultimo building be kept in public hands and not sold off to the best offer from a developer.

Premier Baird wants to gut the Powerhouse and sell it to developers. Who is Premier Baird supporting – the public or the developers? It seems that he only wants to give developers all the public land in New South Wales. Why?
