Join our Campaign to bring back our local councils!

Dear NSW Parliament,

We call on every NSW MP to commit to legislation that allows residents to vote in a binding de-merger plebiscite in any council that has been forced to merge by the Baird Government.

If a majority of residents support their council standing alone, then the law must provide for a council to be reinstated and a de-merger to occur at the soon as possible.

We make this demand because we believe that the community -- residents and local businesses-- not Mike Baird,  should decide the future of their local councils.

    The sacking of councils is no way to run local government or oversee huge infrastructure projects which will change Sydney for ever. Shame on you Baird.

    The dismissal of the representatives elected by the people is a disgraceful undemocratic move, and totally unnecessary.

    As can be expected, no invasive infrastructure projects or property development rule changes are proposed for the Northern Beaches, being Mike Baird’s electorate. The stupidity of merging councils rather than implementing continuous improvement programs in those councils who need to improve, shows a misguided liberal ideology at best and incompetence at worst.

    I’m in New York City, Sydney seems intent on building the most ordinary of any city. This is such a Victorian town with arched windows, wrought iron, Victorian motifs and Victorian colour schemes everywhere. There is not much grey here.

    It is highly anti-democratic the way the like Baird’s government is handling NSW. New laws reducing our voice as citizen of the world. He is reducing our freedom of speech but also making political decisions ignoring what people have voted for. Leichhardt council, marrickville and Ashfield council should remain independent but their individual strength seems to worry dear Mije and his Westconnex plan. I did not vote for the puppet he put in place. He has not been elected, therefore he should not be leading the inner west council or whatever they wanted call this aberration.
