Making Our Community More Liveable

As Sydney grows, getting around becomes harder, slower and more frustrating without proper public transport. While both Labor and the Liberals support a version of the $16b WestConnex project, we have a plan to deliver world class public transport for NSW. We led the campaign that won the extension of light rail from Lilyfield to Dulwich Hill, more frequent services, and free travel for school students.

Extend the light rail along Parramatta Road and into Balmain. Ferry services for Glebe, Annandale, White Bay and West Balmain. Back interstate high speed rail.

Many people are in housing crisis as cost pressures increase across Sydney. Without a safe, affordable place to live, it’s hard to get the rest of your life on track. Labor and the Liberals have voted against the Greens legislation to mandate affordable housing in new developments and protect renter’s rights. We need to protect publicly owned estates from privatisation and advocate for more social housing in our community.

Introduce effective affordable housing targets. Oppose the public housing sell-off by Labor and Liberal and improve renter’s rights by stopping excessive rent rises and no-grounds evictions.

The influence of developers on both Labor and Liberal as exposed by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) shows why we need a strong Green voice in Parliament. We need rules to ensure public spaces are protected and local employment zones are retained. Planning decisions should be returned to local communities and made for the people and the environment, not the big end of town.

Return planning powers to the local community. Protect the Bays Precinct from overdevelopment and protect heritage in our local community.

Open space is key to quality of life and the liveability of our suburbs. I have worked to protect and expand greenspace and street trees in our community. I have successfully campaigned to defeat consecutive Labor and Liberal plans to overdevelop Callan Park, our largest greenspace. We need to extend our parks and protect the trees and gardens that make our community liveable.

Defend local greenspace and parkland from overdevelopment and establish an independent Trust to protect the long-term future of Callan Park.

A vibrant and welcoming night-time culture makes our city special.  The government’s heavy handed law and order approach has forced the closure of crucial live music venues, destroyed jobs and caused the magic around our city to fade. All this for a minimal impact on violence. There is a better way.

Support innovative, integrated and community-led policies that reduce alcohol related violence without shutting our city down.
