Greens MP Jamie Parker gained Parliamentary support for a motion recognising the importance of preschool education and calling on the Government to introduce a scheme for an additional year of public pre-school for two days per week for all children in NSW.

Free internet in your local park: a Greens initiative

Leichhardt and Balmain locals and visitors can now access free internet in public places, thanks to the Greens MP for Balmain and Leichhardt Councillor Jamie Parker.

"I initiated this project because I believe internet access is an important social service which should be available to everyone. Those who may not be able to afford internet at home can go to a local park and access it for free," Mr Parker said.


Container deposit legislation long overdue: Greens launch bill

Greens MPs Jamie Parker and Cate Faehrmann today joined Clover Moore MP to launch a bill to establish a container deposit scheme (CDS) in NSW. The scheme will refund consumers 10 cents for beverage containers they return to a collection depot or reverse vending machine.

A sustainable transport Master Plan - community workshops

The NSW government is developing its Long Term Transport Master Plan which seeks to set out the priorities for NSW transport for the next 20 years. The first phase of consultation has been completed with submissions to the discussion paper closing in April 2012.

The next important step is the release of the draft Transport Master Plan in June 2012. Part of that process includes community consultation.

Greens MP Jamie Parker is joining with Greens transport spokesperson Cate Faehrmann to hold community consultation workshops to ensure residents of the Balmain electorate have their say.


Hundreds attend public meeting on development in Rozelle

ABC reported that close to 500 people attended the public meeting at balmain town hall called by Leichhardt Council to discuss the development at the former Balmain Leagues Club site. Jamie Parker, Greens MP for Balmain addressed the crowd and highlighted the impact on the local retail stores and well as traffic and resident issues.

The meeting overwhelmingly resolved to support the return of the Tigers Leagues Club but not to support the current development proposal.

Barangaroo asbestos find: government agency lacks transparency

Greens MP Jamie Parker has called for a transparent review of contamination remediation plans at Barangaroo following revelations that Lend Lease has known about potentially deadly asbestos on the site for five years but failed to inform the public.

"Building workers and the general public are understandably alarmed by recent discoveries of multiple sites within Barangaroo containing asbestos contamination," Mr Parker said.
